Over 49 million students have just started school in approximately 99,000 U.S. public elementary and secondary schools for the fall 2011 term.
Communities across America welcome back these record numbers of students this fall as population increases and high enrollment rates continue. In particular, more prekindergarten and kindergarten students are expected to enter U.S. public school systems than ever before.
However, our Public Schools are arguably in crisis with tests scores down, costs up and government funds to support these schools always at risk. Budgets are squeezed, after-school programs are being eliminated or curtailed, funding for things such as the Arts and Music are the first to go, bus lines are being dropped and in some districts, so long to Kindergarten!
A Little Peace raises money to support Public School Parent Organizations (the "PTA's"), not-for-profit funds like The Fund for Public Schools in NYC and national organizations such as Donors Choose...literally helping out at the classroom level. Ten percent of net proceeds go directly to these organizations each quarter.
Help our kids with their education. Education = Tolerance = Peace.
